Does Tikosyn Help To Regulate Heart Rate Without Causing Any Side Effects?

Amy husband is in a-fib. He has been on Sotolol to regulate his heart rate to no avail. Cardiologist and electrophysiologist ask him to quit the Sotolol for 72 hours and then have a cardio version and begin taking Tykosan. Does Tykosan have side effects?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Tikosyn is a brand name of anti arrhythmic drug dofetilide. It is very much effective and superior over sotalol. Side-effects are minimal except for a potential complication known as “Torsades de pointes”. Incidence of Torsades de pointes is rare if you take the drug in the correct dosage as advised by cardiologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
