Does Thyronorm Affect Menstruation?

Hi!! I am 28 year old female. I am taking Thyronorm 25mg since my thyroid levels were tested to be high earlier. last week I tested again and found TSH to be 3.7. I have been taking the medicine since past three months. I have noticed that the number of days of my periods has come down from six to four days and the flow has also reduced ( I mean the duration of heavy flow). I am unmarried and not sexually active since past one year. Can you tell my whether the thyroid medicine is causing the problem with periods?

Hi, welcome to 'ask a doctor' service.

I have read your question and here is my advice.

Yes, you are very right. Thyroxine can reduce the menstrual flow; in contrast low thyroxine in the blood can cause heavy and frequent menstruation.

I hope I have answered your question, I will be happy to answer anything else you want to ask.
