Does Tamiflu Cause Diarrhea, Cough And Fatigue In Elderly People?
My mom is 95. Living in an assisted living facility. They have stopped all visitation due to a flu outbreak. She was being given Tamaflu 2/day for 10 days. They want her to continue anther full Rx for an additional 10 days. She is highly sensitive to any medication and had a very strong allergic reaction to aspirin. My concern is that her so called flu symptoms didn t begin until after the full treatment with Tamaflu. Now she s having diarrhea, cough, weakness and confusion. In my opinion these are or could be more related to side effects of Tamaflu. I think the med should be discontinued but wanted to get another opinion.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your idea is not a bad one, medicines can have side effects , however cough , weakness and confusion are not common with Tamiflu . And these symptoms more favor the disease rather the drug, so my advice would be she should continue with drugs. I hope the doctor would be looking for the side effects if any develop and they can manage.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
