Does Risperidone Help In Alleviating Anxiety?

My husband has Alzheimer s (severe) and has been taking a xanax generic 1/2 pill / .5 when he gets very anxious and a bit belligerent. I asked to up it from 1/2 to 1 pill as 1/2 was not working for him. My doctor agreed. Tues I called for a refill. He was out of the office Wed. when I called to pick it up at the pharmacy. Today, Thursday a.m., I called and told I was very low and the pharmacy had not received a prescription. His nurse said she would tell how important it was for him. He did not order it yet. I just gave my dear love the last 1/2 pill I had and he is getting very fearful. - The question; i have Risperidone 0.5 which I give to to him in the morning and evening. I do not give him the one at noon anymore. WOULD ONE OF THESE HELP RICH NOW?

Hello,

Hopefully, you can get the prescription refilled soon. In the meantime, I would not expect the risperidone to help as much as the Xanax.

However, risperidone can be given to patients with delirium and agitation, and the dose you are giving is quite low, so I do not think to give another 0.5 mg is going to hurt and may help calm him somewhat.
