Does Prograf Interact With Trokendi XR?

I am a post liver transplant patient and have been on prograf (tacrolimus) for eight years. I have recently been prescirbed Trokendi XR for spinal fusion pain by a pain management doctor. I am concerned about interaction with my anti rejection medication. Should I raise this concern and request another medication from the pain management doctor? I am also experiencing a major episode of red and itching skin, since starting the medicine last Wednesday. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Hi,

Yes, care is needed while taking any drug with Tavrolimus. Topiramate can decrease the effect of tacrolimus, hence caution is needed with the combination.

Besides skin reaction are common side effects of Topiramate and if you have rashes, you may need to stop the drug as sometimes this may cause serious skin reactions. So you may consult your doctor in this regards.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
