Does Premarin Cause Swelling And Pitting Edema In The Lower Legs?

I’ve recently developed swelling and some pitting edema in my lower legs. I have no history of heart disease or symptoms, had a physical exam 3 weeks ago. I have been on estradiol for about 4 years and levothyroxine. 3 weeks ago my doctor prescribed premarin cream. Could premarin cause this?

Premarin as a topical therapy cannot cause systemic side effects like lower limb edema. It is your oral estradiol therapy that may cause fluid retention and lower limb edema. I advice you to consult your gynaecologist/endocrinologist to consider dose changes of oral estradiol and/or diuretic therapy.
