Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have osteopenia and RA and for 6 mths. taken 2 rounds of step down prednisone starting w 30mg and then just stayed on low dose. I'm transitioning again from one RA med (Actemra to Xeljanz) without any prednisone and in pain big time. If I take low dose Prednisone say 5mg again, am I in any danger osteopenia getting worse?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. Small dose steroids over a long period is likely to cause osteoporosis &osteopenia. But regular exercises like walking helps osteogenesis . Periodic check up &investigations to assess bone health.. ( Bone mineral density test/vitsmin D ).&in time replacement of deficiencies....can avoid it.... Thanks.
