Does Naproxen Help Cure Back Pain?

I am taking hydrocodon with apap. Tonight I started running a fever 100.8.
Prior to the hydrocodon, I was taking naproxen for lower back pain. This past Friday the wound care doctor did a debribement on 2 lesions. Can I take naproxen or ibuprofen for fever?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

Naproxen and Ibuprofen both belong to the same class of pain killers called NSAIDs. Both of them also reduce fever in addition to decreasing the pain. However, both of them only control the pain and donot cure it.

The cause of the back pain when removed, will cure the back pain. However, there are some conditions like inflammatory joint pains for eg. rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, etc - for which there is no definite cure but only control of the condition.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
