Does Metroprolol Help Reduce Palpitations And Lower BP?

I have high blood pressure I take 20 mg. a day of Lisinipril and I was taking 5mg of ziac. However, my prescription company won't pay for the ziac any longer so my dr just put me on 25mg of metoprolol er succinate instead of the ziac. Sometimes get palpitation, so I am assuming the metroprolol will help with that and also help lower my blood pressure?
