Does Metronidazole Cause Brown Vaginal Discharge?

Hello, I am 24 years old and I am experiencing bloody/brown discharge. It is also grainy? I have no idea what is going on. But, I have been taking Metronidazole for the past week and it seem it was only for two days. I am not pregnant because I have had an IUD in place for two years now. Please help!

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. With oral Metronidazole, you do not see brownish discharge. With vaginal pessaries, brownish discharge is a common finding as the drug dissolves in the vaginal discharge and alters the color. Apart from this, transient hormone imbalance in view of the use of the medication and the associated infection can lead to some breakthrough bleeding, which again is brownish in color. To clarify, a proper clinical appraisal is necessary. Hope this helps.
