Does MS Occur Due To Spinal Tap Procedure?

Hello Dr. Rynne: My daughter has been diagnosed with MS. As a baby at one month, she was hospitalized and was given a spinal tap when the doctors thought that she had meningitis. She actually had had a sun stroke and was eventually released. Could that invasive spinal tap have caused nerve scarring leading to MS?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Well, there are no such reported cases of development of multiple sclerosis after spinal tap even in childhood.
Secondly I wonder about having a heat stroke in a one-month-old baby.
Since she looks to be a diagnosed case of multiple sclerosis I hope you know about the prognosis.
Consult a Neurologist and follow the advise well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
