Does Losartan Cause Dry Cough?

I was just prescribed Losartan for my high blood pressure. Since taking I have noticed a dry cough and a tightness in my chest. I live in an area where allergies are affecting me with post nasal drip and sneezing. Is this cough and tightness due to allergies and/or the medication?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Losartan may indeed cause cough and chest tightness (including nasal symptoms resembling your allergy) and it does so frequently enough to consider it as a likely cause in cases like yours. Since the symptoms started right after starting the drug, it is even more likely. You should discuss this with the treating doctor for confirmation and to consider alternatives.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
