Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been placed on losartan approximately 6 months ago with and increase in dosage to 50 mg 3 months ago. 2 months ago a bright red quarter sized rash appeared on my lower leg. Antifungal and antibiotic ointments have made no difference. could the losartan be the cause? I am also on amlodopine 10 mg for hypertension and have been on that for several years without problems. Thank you.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Losartan may cause skin rashes but your rash is less likely to be caused by this drug since you took this drug for over 3 months before rash appeared. Since you have had no improvement with antibiotic and antifungal ointments, I will suggest you see a dermatologist for examination.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
