Does Lopressor Cause Fatigue, Depression And Breathlessness?

My husband is on Lopressor since his bypass a year ago. He complains every day of being more tired and breathless . I think it may be this med that is causing his fatigue. I observe him acting depressed as well. Talks of dying. Yes, he is old at just turning 79.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern .It could be due to Lopressor (metoprolol). But I would suggests to go to a local doctor for further examinations (physical , ECG) as soon as you can to rule out any possible heart problem that may cause the symptoms. After we make sure that it is not something related directly with the heart than we can say it's due to Lopressor side effect. In that case the doctor will change the dosage or the medication. Meanwhile try to monitor your husband heart rate and blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rudina Balliu
