Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have hypothyroidism and am currently taking levothyroxine 125mcg and am taking hormone blocker anastrozole due to breast cancer. Even Pryor to the breast cancer I felt the thyroid med. was not working because I am always tired, no energy, and have trouble sleeping. I am on a cpap machine which doesn t always work.
There is no significant interaction between levothyroxine and anastrozole. You can take both drugs simultaneously. Serum TSH is measured to monitor for adequate replacement. TSH can take up to 4 months to normalize. TSH is measured 6–8 weeks after initiation of levothyroxine and then annually once you are on a stable dose of levothyroxine. Dose is titrated as per serum TSH level and a serum TSH level of 1- 3 is considered adequate. Tiredness, loss of energy and insomnia occur both as side effect of levothyroxine and as symptoms of hypothyroidism. This is seen in early stage of treatment and usually resolves once serum TSH is stabilized and a stable dose of levothyroxine is established. Advice 1. Continue levothyroxine and anastrozole as suggested by your doctor 2. Get serum TSH after 8 weeks. Take the report to your doctor so that he/she will further modify the dose of levothyroxine as per report. You can write at this portal too. I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
