Does Fenofibrate Cause Skin Rashes?

I m diabetic and recently had shingles. I have developed a rash of red bumps on both thighs. I noticed today that my Fenofibric dosage was raised from 45mg to 135mg on my last endocrinolgist visit. I m 8 days into the 135 mg dosage. Do you think this is related?

hi, welcome to "ASK A DOCTOR".
Regarding your question about fenofibrate. Yes, fenofibrate is some time can produce skin rash. It is more common among diabetic and those who take aspirin. around 3.6 % person who is taking fenofibrate have the skin rash. Other side effects are a pain in the abdomen, nausea/vomiting, yellowing eyes or skin (jaundice), muscle pain, tenderness, or. weakness.

I suggest you stop fenofibrate and consult your endocrinologist.
Temporary measure you can take such as applying calamine lotion and take some antihistaminics such as fexofenadine.

Hope this will help you.
