Does Enterogermina Help To Treat Diarrhea?

Does Enterogermina help to treat diarrhea or dysentery picked up in Colombia? It was suggested to us there and I have now been on it for 24 hours ( nothing else, like Imodium, has done any good at all) and I don t know whether it is the best treatment. My sister and I returned today with Bogota Belly which we have been suffering from from for 6 days. Evie Gordon

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Enterogermina contains a rod-shaped gram-positive motile and spore-forming bacterium called Bacillus clausii, which lives in the soil. It is classified as probiotic. It is indicated to be taken during diarrhea and it helps to cure and prevent intestinal bacterial flora disorders.
However, a stool examination would be necessary to determine if the diarrhea is caused by infection or not. In case it happens to be due to infection, along with this, appropriate course of antibiotics needs to be administered for the complete cure.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
