Does Dexamethasone Cause Weight Gain?

HI! Been taking dexamethasone for more than a year now. Just read recently about the bad side effects and would like to know what s the most effective and fastest way to remove it from my body. I used to weigh 130lbs and now I m more than 160lbs in less than two years. Is it really possible that the weight gain was caused by taking dexamethasone? Thanks in advance.

Hi welcome to HCM..

I appreciate your knowledge regarding side effect of steroid ....

Yes your weight gain could be from steroid
.....
(Steroid increase appetite so, ...)

To reduce this side effect if possible alternate dose can be taken...
You have not mentioned indication for use of steroid ....

Take low calories diet....
Regular exercise .....

If still weight not reduced than when you stop taking steroid (when complete full course ), your weight can regain to that of original before starting steroid....

Take care .
