Does Clozapine Cause Seizures?

I have schizoaffective disorder for which I am prescribed clozapine, I have been taking it for many yeare. A couple of weeks ago I had a seziure. The neurologist at the hospital where I went to seemed to think it was caused by the clozapine. Have you ever heard about that before? What about other antipsychotics? Are any of them safer or at least less dangerous than others?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,

Clozapine is a second generation antipsychotic drug. The drug is a safe drug if used with proper supervision. But yes the drug is known to lower the seizure threshold.

This drug should be preferably avoided in individuals with history of seizure disorder. So if you had seizure in past then better to talk with your psychiatrist regarding re-evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
