Does Cephalexin Helps In The Bladder Infection And Causes Diarrhea As A Side Effect?

I have been feeling fatigued and have had some lower back pain for about a month or so. I went to the doctor and it turned out that I had a bladder infection. He prescribed cipro for the infection. While on cipro I feel that my symptoms went from bad to worst . Along with the increasing back pain and fatigue I also been experiencing painful gas, bloating, and tenderness all throughout my legs. I went to the er on Tuesday And I still had the infection, so they switched my antibiotic to cephalexin 500 mg. I was afraid to take the cephalexin because of the side effects which included severe diarrhea...I ve always had a sensitive stomach and didn t want to make things worse ... I decided to finish the cipro and endure the side effects. I finished the cipro Friday but the side effects are still lingering .. I now decided to take the cephalexin..am I on the right path, please advise, thanks

Hi,
If you are still having symptoms of bladder infection, do continue and finish the cephalexin course.
I would assume that the Cephalexin prescription was based on culture and sensitivity report.
If you are too much concerned about the gastrointestinal side effects then you can ask your doctor for probiotics. Probiotics helps in maintaining normal flora and decreases the incidence and severity of antibiotics associated diarrhoea.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day. Take care.
