Does Azithromycin Take Long To Cure An Upper Respiratory Tract Infection?

I had an upper respiratory infection and have been on azithromycin 250 mg. for 5 days now , but feel like it has gone from head and throat to my lungs . Very hard to breathe and pain in the upper back. Been using ventolin inhaler but only helps for 2 hours. should I go back to my Dr. Or does it just need more time for the antibiotic to work , feels like maybe pneumonia.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be suffering acute bronchitis with asthma. Need to continue antibiotics with bronchodilators. Use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly. Avoid cool drinks and freeze water, avoid smoking and caffeine free.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
