Does Aricept Cause Nightmares?

My family member began Aricept 4 months ago for Alzheimer s. Since beginning, he experiences nightmares and sometimes becomes physically aggressive during the nightmares. His meds instructions are to take at bedtime. If Aricept is causing nightmares, would taking Aricept earlier in the day be possible/would it make any difference? YYYY@YYYY

Your guess is right. Aricept can cause abnormal dreams, aggression and agitation in about 3% of subjects whose use it. There is no evidence suggesting any relief of these side effects when the drug is administered during day time. With the dose reduction, the side effects can come down. So, please inform the neurologist who prescribed it and discuss about dose reduction and slow increment of the dose.
