Do Vitamin Supplements Reduce The Efficacy Of Levothyroxine?

I have been taking a Thyroid replacement drug for many years and want to know if taking a couple of supplements in the am will effect the levothyroxine s working properly? I know i need to wait 5 hrs to take my Vitamin D due to absorption but not sure about Alpha-Lipoic Acid & L- Carnitine ? Should i wait until noon time to take these supplements each day?

Hi,

It does not seem to be interactions between Levothyroxine and the supplements you mention and probably it is safe to take them together. Still because you already take vitamin D at a later time you may choose to take the rest of the supplements at the same time with vitamin D.

Literature recommends taking Levothyroxine on an empty stomach 30-60 minutes before breakfast for better absorption so you may choose to take Levothyroxine before breakfast and the rest of the supplements at midday or evening.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
