Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
2 days ago mu pressure was 215/119. i went to the doctor and they gave me 100 mg of metoprolol while in the office and let me go home. When I left my pressure was 200/90. I have been taking HCTZ 25 and 2 metoprolol 50mg a day. My pressure is still a bit high 171/101. have to go out of town for 2 days and I m nervous. Do the meds take a few days to regulate my pressure? Is this normal?
The blood pressure medicines do not generally take time to bring your pressure down over time. It is likely that you need a higher dose of medication or different meds. - However, it is not good to bring down the blood pressure too rapidly, which is probably why your doctor preferred to bring it down to a systolic of 170s. - You don't need to worry about it for your trip but you should have regular visits and monitor your BP at home as well to titrate the meds to the right dose. - Keep a watch for dizziness, headaches, blurred vision or chest pain. If you have any of these or if your BP gets back to the 200/100 range, you should go to a nearby emergency clinic.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
