Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do Swellings In Neck With Impairment Of Right Hand Indicate Hodgkin S Lymphoma?
My brother was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and had a round of Chemo that appeared to be helping. 3 days after he ended that treatment he began swelling in his neck and then his face and now he has limited use of his right arm. Is this indicative of Hodgkins Lymphoma or should we be looking at something else? He seems to think that a high amino acid diet is going to cure him but we have managed to convince him to at least seek a second opinion. His previous dr had mentioned stem cell transplant and my brother says he will not go that route. I am concerned that with this additional swelling we may be looking at something other than Hodgkins. He is 40 years old and extremely fit. Could you give me any guidance in working with him?
There can be lymphatic blockage via underlying Hodgkin immune response or else responsible for the neck swelling with arm issue. Effects over the axillary drainage system is of primary concern in this issue. It is recommended to discuss the need of a Doppler upper limb, lymph node biopsy or certain blood reports for further assessment in your brother's case.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
