Do Missed Periods, With Negative Pregnancy Tests Confirm Menstrual Irregularity?
My wife has irregular periods, and recently has not had a period in around 2 months. We are worried that she maybe pregnant seeing as we practiced unprotected sex. I did the withdrawal method, and don t think that anything got inside. She has taken 2 pregnancy tests in the mornings and they have both been negative. What should we look for to know if she is pregnant or waiting on a prolonged period?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I have read your description and understand your concern. Since there is a delay in getting periods and pregnancy test is negative, it is now advisable to rule out pregnancy first. Kindly get an ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis along with beta-hCG levels in blood. In case the pregnancy is negative, the cause for delay or irregular periods such as polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) could be known by ultrasound scan report. Accordingly, the cause could be treated. Kindly consult Gynaecologist with the report for appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
