Do I Need Further Vaccination Shots After A Dog Bite?

A dog bit my brother 3 weeks back. We got him the first shot of vaccine. Doctor asked us to observe the dog for five days and said if it dies within next 5 days, come for completion of the dosage, else not required. The dog is healthy even after 3 weeks now.. Can i be rest assured that my brother is safe and needs no more vaccine shots?
