Do Difficulty In Breathing And Cough Indicate Pneumonia?

what are the symptoms of pneumonia in the elderly, primarily a person who was recently, three weeks ago, diagnosed with bronchitis, and is now having trouble breathing. She does not seem to have a fever, has slight, non-productive cough, does not complain of pain. She is eighty four years old.

Hello
The bronchitis explains her troubled breathing and these acute exacerbations can be treated with asthalin nebulisation and then continue the medications she's been prescribed already.

Pneumonia is usually associated with fever tachypnea and cough with moderate sputum and intercostal retractions and use of accessory muscles. However you can be sure regarding this by getting the routine blood tests and an another x-ray done.

I'd also recommend you to get an ECG done because breathlessness is also a cardiac symptom and considering her age, any cardiac pathology needs to be ruled out.

Hope this helps.

Regards
