Do Blood And A Worm In Stool Require Immediate Medical Attention?

Howdy. I went poop this morning (I am usually constipated due to long-term opiates and it s very difficult to have a bowel movement), and it was very easy to go. I heard a drop, and looked down at a puddle of blood and what LOOKED like a small (1-inch) worm. The worm was taken from stool, and it broke up, so it s SOMETHING but I don t know what. Sometimes I do get detritus clinging into my stools. The blood just seemed more than a normal fissure. It was not a painful discharge at all, so I m a bit confused. Should I GO to an ER or talk to my doctor?? (Say no!! LOL)

Hi,

Thanks for your question and I do understand your concern

“As” per your clinical history is concerned you need to take a laxative at bed time and take fiber supplement at day time to make stool soft and prevent constipation. Do a stool examination to confirm if you have worm infection present or not if present then you need to take [albendazole] 400 mg once and you need a doctor's prescription for it. Finally, if you have no pain at all so nothing to be worried at all and no need to go to emergency room.

Drink more than 10 glasses of water every day.

Hope that help
