Do Vyvanse And Zoloft Cause Poor Concentration And ADHD?

I was just prescribed Vyvanse by my General Physician. I am currently taking Zoloft, 100mg. I have trouble focusing and listening without drifting off mentally. I ve never been technically diagnosed ADHD, but through counseling years ago I was told I am probably borderline ADD. I have suffered with depression and anxiety for years and have been taking Zoloft now for at least 12 years at different dosage levels. I am 58 years old. Ever since I was a young boy I was very talkative and fast paced. I want to know what are the different medications to treat adult ADD, and which ones are best for helping increasing paying attention, listening and focusing on a task and staying on task. And, how do the ADD / ADHD drugs interact with Setraline/Zoloft? I am concerned about side effects increasing depression or worse.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Vyvanse (deslexamphetamine) is a stimulant medication which helps improve attention and focus in adults with ADHD. However, caution should be maintained while taking Vyvanse and Zoloft together as this combination increases serotonin levels in your body resulting in a condition called serotonin syndrome, characterized by jitteriness, fever, high blood pressure, confusion etc. So please be advised to follow up with the emergency room if you notice any unusual symptoms. However, if you follow the dosage and instructions properly, most people will do fine while on this combination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
