hii doc m from india i have completed post exposure vaccination twice including this year .12 days ago my dog bite me on my thumb its not deep.just a small bite and little blood comes out?do i need rabies vaccination again.my dog is vaccinated .he got his shot in this january?
Hi, Thanks for your query. Since the bite is on thumb and blood has come out, its cat 3 bite. And since you have received the complete doses of prophylaxis, then you must receive two doses of vaccine on day 0 and day 3, as per WHO. it says... ''For rabies-exposed patients who have previously undergone complete pre-exposure vaccination or post-exposure treatment with cell-derived rabies vaccines, two intramuscular doses of a cell-derived vaccine separated by three days are sufficient'' Vaccination status of animal doesn;t guarantees that he has undergone successful vaccination , as there may be chances of vaccination failure also....
Best wishes
