Good day, My son is 4months old , he was treated for jaundice at birth . its expected to have a stable neck control at 4months , though doctor said he might experience some brain development delay due to jaundice . He is very active now , started bla bla child talk , smilies , and doing well with tummy talk teraphy , carrying his hand and legs well while playing but yet his neck his not stable though he controls it side ways often time and follow color object sideways. Hello,

Brain development delays in neonates due to certain medical conditions like severe jaundice at the time of birth and hypothyroid which is evaluated a week after birth.

All Newborns experience physiological jaundice at the time of birth which is something very normal condition in newborns.

Even if a newborn has pathological jaundice (which happens to due different blood group and Rh factor of mother and baby ), it's treated after a day or 2 of birth and if not treated then it may affect the brain.

After receiving the treatment it may not affect in the development of brain.

In some babies it takes even upto 6 months to control the neck. So I suggest you don't need to start any treatment right now.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Naira Jahangir, OB and GYN Specialist
