Do Coliform Bacilli Cause Infertility In Men?

Hello Doctor, I just run a semen fertility test and I have 5% active, 15% inactive and 80% dead. From the semen and urine test, it stated that I have coliform bacilli in both. Will I still be able to impregnant my wife? Or what does the future holds for me.h

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

Yes presence of colliform bacilli (bacteria) in semen can affect the fertility in men. However in your case there is also severe reduction in motility of sperms. You have only 5% active motility, 15% inactive motile or sluggish motile and Rest 80% of sperms are non motile or dead. This problem is known as asthenospermia or low sperm motility. Low sperm motility is caused due to metabolic deficencies, exposure to indrustrial chemicals or toxins, due to abnormal liquification of semen & other reasons.
Sperm motility has important role in fertility. Minimum 50% sperms should be motile, so that they could reach the egg in fallopian tube & cause pregnancy. Presence of insufficient motile sperms as in you should be cause of infertility.
