Diverticulitis IBS, Gastritis, Pain In Abdomen Till Large Intestine, Sluggish Bowel. Is Buscipan Is The Appropriate Medicine?

My mum has ? diverticulitis IBS. also suffers from extreme gas pain in abd.- starts up high then travels down thru large intestine. She is 86yrs old and has been previously scoped and told she has a sluggish bowel. She has had her first dose of Buscipan today-ordered 5mg tid. She also recently recovered from a mild case of Norwalk last month and the gas pains have been worse sjnce then. Do you think buscipan is the appropriate type of med for this scenerio? She is on other meds so I think the interaction with this med is the more "benign" choice to introduce, How long should this drug take to relieve gas pain symptoms?

HI
Thank for choosing HCM,
No you can not give any symptomatic medicine for longer period, the cause of abdominal pain has to be found out, more over the medicine which you described here is anticholinergic drug must be given with precaution in old age group, in my opinion your mother needs some more investigation to rule out the underlying possibilities of intestinal pathologies, besides the diverticulitis, keep her on extremely light diet, no oily food, liquid diet would be more preferable for her, IBS is controversial in the age of 86 years old lady so forget about that, take good care of her,,, Bye. ( Good nursing care is the best medicine for older patients)
