Discomfort Due To Pulled Muscle In Lower Abdomen, Pain In Lower Left Front. Time To Heal?

I felt like I pulled a muscle in my lower left abdomen about a month ago playing catch in a swimming pool but the pain - not real bad pain but discomfort is still there. The pain is lower left front just above hip high. It is about 3 inches higher than my hip and about 6 inches to the front of hip. I am healthy and fit for a 61 year old. We were jumping and reaching to catch the ball.... Do pulled muscles sometimes still cause discomfort for that long?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, ofcourse it can cause pain for so long, if it is not treated, any how there are other causes of the pain in that area, may be urinary tract infection, stone in the ureter near the bladder, or hernia, may be mesentric.
I advise you to consult a surgeon for diagnosis, because it is important to exclude the organic problems. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Generally, any strained or pulled muscle should recover within 3-4 weeks (maximum) provided it is given adequate rest to heal.

Treatment of abdominal muscle injuries is difficult as there is no way to splint the abdomen and it is nearly impossible to fully rest these muscles.

Activities that cause pain or spasm of the abdominal muscles should be avoided.Gentle stretching is helpful, but it should not be painful. Stretching excessively can be harmful, and slow the healing process.

Before any activities, gentle heating of the involved area can help to loosen the muscle.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
