Difficulty In Walking, Mobile Knee Cap, Heavy Ankles. Suggestion

I've been having knee trouble in my right knee for the past week. My knee has become unstable and I've seemed to lost some stability as I have difficult walking. My kneecap has also become more mobile as it moves left to right when I walk. My leg feels fine and some what comfortable when bent, but wen straightened out it is uncomfortable. I feel no real pain, but muscles underneath seemed "twisted/tangled" so to speak. When I get my leg to where these muscles don't feel this way, I cause something else to feel this. My ankles also constantly feel like I'm wearing weights around them. I dislocated my left kneecap last year, and currently use my brace to help my right knee now (which helps enough to walk, though the muscles still feel uncomfortable) but I know this is not a permanent solution. I've tried ice (thinking this was caused by inflammation) though it did not last long in helping my knee. I tried biking and swimming to strength my muscles, but my legs can't take it for long periods. They just feel very unstable and weak. Particularly the right (my left has been a little weak since the dislocation, but I continue my physical therpy though definitely not very often.)

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M.Forum.
Knee cap ( we call it patella) is nothing to do with movement of knee joint.
However if inflammation or injury to this knee cap, than it may interfere in walking.
Knee joint have Femur ( upper bone) and tibia ( lower bone). Knee cap is only for protection of this joint. ( you can call it a helmet).

This is the weight bearing joint of body.
If person is obese than there is difficulty in movements when some one walks.
So please mention your weight and height.
2nd reason may be inflammation of knee joint( osteoarthritis)
Next joint which bears whole of the weight of the body is ankle joint.
Consult a orthopaedician and get in an X ray of both joints.
Get in blood examination for C B C and E S R ( for chronic infection).
Ligaments torn is most common features of these weight bearing joints.
So consultation of orthopaedician will find out the disease.
Hope I have answered your query.
If further any question I will help.
Good luck.
Dr. HET
