The diarrhea caused me itching problems after going to the toilet. I went to see a doctor and he prescribed Proctosedyl ointment which proved very effective in stopping the itching. I used it of about ten days and then stopped for a copuple of days, however the itching continued and only stops when I use the ointment. Thanks for any advice on what the problem could be.

Hi,
perianal itching can be due to various causes ,common causes being parasitic infection, repeated episodes of diarrhea, haemorrhoids, infections etc.Try cleansing the area gently immediately after stools and dry thoroughly.Wear cotton underwear and loose clothing.Try not to scratch.Take oral antihistamines alongwith ointment contains hydrocortisone .In case symptoms persists ,take oral anti-parasite treatment .A single dose may cure infection ,but often a second dose is given one to two weeks later.
