Diagnosed With Septic Tonsils. Can I Take Strong Antibiotics For Long Duration During Pregnancy?
Hi I am 19 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with septic tonsils for which the doctor has prescribed ceftum 500mg twice a day. I have already taken this for 5 days but he has asked me to continue for another 5 days to avoid a relapse of the infection . I am very worried if I can take such a strong antibiotic for such a long period of time when pregnant. Would appreciate some advice! Thanks.
Please take the antibiotic for 2 more days at least and if needed you can reduce dose to 250mg twice daily,if the doctor feels it is not fully resolved..It is not dangerous to the baby..if it has resolved you can stopwith 5 days.It is a good principle to take only essential medicines during pregnancy.
