Diagnosed With Rehumatiod Arthritis. Tablets Saaz And HCQS Of No Help. Suggestions

My wife ( Age 39 years ) knee joint pain swelling and both hand finger joint pain and swelling is continue from last two year, last time my wife blood checkup by local doctor RA Factor , report is come in 225 , doctor sugges me rehumatiod arthritis : advise tabl. is Saaz 500 mg , ( Two time a Day ) , HCQS 200 mg ( one time a Day ) amd Defcort 18 mg ( one time Night ).
After one week light improvement but not much improvement .
Please advise me ,

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Let me tell you some bare facts about the disease RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS :
* Its an auto immune disease
* Till date, there is no permanent cure for this disease (so it is going to be life long)
* RA tends to have remissions & exacerbations of activity
* Only DMARDs (disease modifying antirheumatic drugs) are of some help

The DMARDs tend to produce adverse effects over a period of time, so it is mandatory to have Complete blood picture and LFT (liver function tests) done atleast once in 6 months and adjust the dosing accordingly.

One more important information, both Saaz & HCQS are very slow acting DMARDs and may take about 6-8 weeks to produce the therapeutic effect. Methotrexate is said to be the fasting acting drug among all DMARDs. Also a combination therapy of Leflunamide with methotrexate produces best results in early cases of RA. Hope this helps.
