HI, MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH THIS DISEASE, MEMBRANOUS NEPHROPATHY NOT QUITE 2 MONTHS AGO. HE HAS A COLD WITH A HORRIBLE COUGH. HE ASKED OUR PHARMACIST WHAT HE COULD TAKE AND SHE SAID MUCINEX SEVERE CONGESTION AND COUGH. LAST NIGHT HE SAID HE COULDN'T QUIT COUGHING. RIGHT NOW HE SOUNDS AWFUL AND i'M GETTING WORRIED. CAN HE WAIT TO CALL HIS DOCTOR ON MONDAY MORNING? I DON'T WANT THIS TO GET OUT OF HAND AND CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS. HE'S ON SMZ/TMP DS 800-160.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Mucinex ( guafecine) will only facilitates mucus from lungs . As you stated that he had cough with congestion, so the best treatment is bronchodilators and take it after consultation with a doctor. As he is already taking sulfamethosaxole+ trimethoprim is the best antibiotics at present. Coffee may help for some time as it also acts as a bronchodilators. Good luck. Dr. HET
