Diagnosed With Malignant Breast Cancer

Hi, I am a 53 year old woman who was diagnosed with malignant breast cancer when I was 49. This of course put me into menopause the instant I start chemo. First I had the lumpectomy and after chemo was radiation. I have had many side effects from the tamoxifen not to mention the employment and money/bankruptcy problems. Actually the chemo and radiation and lumpectomy were nothing compared to the last four years. Would you know what I can expect when I stop taking the tamoxifen. I have had vaginal dryness yet there is a liquid leaking out. Sex with my husband is impossible. Will these issues go away. I have a large dental bill due to my treatment. My bones and joints have only gotten worse-they weren t the greatest before. Will my joint and bone pain get any better and will I be able to have sex again as I am still young and have that baby face. I have a lot of scar tissue and my breasts are very fibrous. What if anything can I expect once I m off the tamoxifen? kag

Normally, Tamoxifen is very well tolerated and does not lead to many side effects. Some patients though, do have a number of side effects but not related to sex life. The vaginal dryness etc that you are having is more likely due to the menopause than tamoxifen. Using an estrogen cream locally can help. Stopping tamoxifen will reverse all the side effects as these are temporary.
