Diagnosed With Genital Herpes. Will Using A Condom Help Not To Transmit The Disease? Any Other Options?

I was diagnosed with genital herpes in 2006 from having oral sex with my husband. I am now separated from him since last year because he cheated on me. I have taken blood work on all other STD that i could have contracted from him! If I only have genital herpes can i still have sexual intercourse with another partner if condoms are used? I know condoms are not 100% but what else is my options? By the way, I am 36 years old.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Type 2 variety of herpes simplex causes genital herpes infection.
Type 2 herpes simplex causes genital herpes.
Type 1 herpes simplex causes oral herpes lesions.
However, type 1 can also cause genital lesions.
Barrier method of contraception will prevent the transmission of herpes infection.
However, oral sex can transmit oral as well as genital infection.
If you are testing positive for herpes infection, treatment for the herpes infection should be taken before starting with new sexual relation.

Thanks and take care
