Diagnosed With Diverticulitis, Severe Abdominal Pain Still. Is It Normal ?
I was recently diagnosed with diverticulitis. I had severe abdominal pain, and that was the diagnosis I received. I a, currently taking three different medications. I was told to eat a clear liquid diet for a couple of days. My question is, should I np be concerned that I have taken the mess for three days and I am still in pain? And I have had two bowle move ents today, is that normal?
Diverticular disease is due to outpocketing or protrusion of the bowel. It is common over the age of 40 and can present with a history of abdominal pain. Diverticulitis is diagnosed when these protrusions become inflamed or infected.
The fluid diet that you have been prescribed is to help rest the bowel and allow it to heal.
If you are still experiencing significant discomfort, it is possible that you may need antibiotic therapy or if you are currently using antibiotics- they may need to be adjusted.
In addition, imaging may be necessary to rule out any of the complications of diverticulitis.
You may want to consider visiting your doctor for a re evaluation.
I hope this helps
