Diagnosed With Bladder Outlet Obstruction. Suggested Insertion Of Catherer Through Urethra Into Bladder. Any Permanent Cure?

Hello, My mother-in-law[52 yrs] is diagnosed with 'Bladder outlet obstruction' and is asked to insert a catherer through the urethra into the bladder once in a month or so. Though it is giving temporary relief, I want to know if there is any permanent cure for this problem. If anyone has similar kind of problem, pls share your exp.

Good Day! What is the cause of the outlet obstruction? I would suggest getting a urodynamic study to determine the extent of the obstruction and if the bladder is not permanently damaged and weakened. I would be able to tell alot after a urodynamics. Urodynamics is determining the urine flow rate and bladder strength. For now i would suggest keeping the catheter to help the bladder recover and not to further increase the damage that will incur. Usual cause of bladder obstruction would be an atrophic urethra for females or tight urine opening. It could be remedied by estrogen cream or surgery. Best if luck.
