Hello, I m a 25 year old woman and have been recently diagnosed with achalasia. I would like to know from the perspective of a doctor would it be better for me to first try the ballon stretching method or just go straight for the surgery? What is the effecctive rate of the ballon stretching? Thank you for your response in advance.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
The Balloon dilatation is 75% effective , where as Surgery is 90-95% effective.
So,it's better you go for Surgery, particularly Laparoscopic surgery.
All the best.
Regards
