Diagnosed With HSV2, Initial Outbreak, No Symptoms And Signs. Transmission?

I was just diagnosed with HSV2 & I am still going through my initial outbreak . I m trying to explain to my last partner that he is who infected me. He says he doesn t have anything & just got tested for everything . How do I explain and get him to understand that 1. HSV testing is unreliable without an outbreak & 2. That he can have it without ever having signs or symptom?
