Diagnosed With Graves Disease And Taking Neomercazole. Red Rash Under Eyes And Experiencing Paranoid Schizophrenia. What Could It Be?

Hi, my long term partner was diagnosed with Graves disease about 3 years ago. He was proscribed neomercazole (carbimazole) tablets by his endocrinologist and for the first year he was taking approximately 6 tablets a day and with each blood test and follow up appointment with his endocrinologist he was proscribed less and less tablets until it reached 1 table per day. When it got into the second year of his diagnosise he missed a lot of appointments with his endocrinologist and when he did go he was proscibed a much larger amount of tablets, roughly 4 - 6 tablets per day once again. Over time he started to skip tablets and not look after his condition and miss a lot of specialist appointments. He had a specialist appointment in February this year and kept taking 4 tablets per day as proscribed up until about April. In April he went through a major stressful change in his life where he ran away from home for about 6 months and lost his job. He tried to get a proscription from his gp for neomercazole tablets but when he went to the pharmacy was advised these tablets were out of stock by the manufacurer and wasn t sure when the supplier would be supplying them again. From April until November he didn t take any tablets or go to the doctor and during this stressful time in his life everything started to change for him. He developed a red rash under his eyes and started having issues with his mentality. He has developed theories about what he thinks the world and people are now like because while he was gone he has said he figured it all out. I think he is experiencing paranoid schizophrenia as he thinks stuff that just isn t real. I don t know how to talk to him when he talks to me about his thoughts as they aren t real and I dont know if I need to tell him straight up how it is or just go along and listen to what he says as will it make him worse if I tell him his wrong. I made him go to the hospital in October about his graves disease but they said he needed to see his specialist and his thyroid levels were normal. He saw his specialist twice since he has come back from running away and the gp proscribed propylthiouracil (PTU) since neomercazole still isn t available. The specialist agreed with this and advised my partner to take PTU 2 tablets 3 times a day (6 tablets all up each day). I had to convience my partner that this medication would help his graves disease as he originally didn t trust the medication and he has been taking this medication for about a week and a half now. He isn t as depressed as he was a week and a half ago but he still has delusions about what is real and what isn t. He won t tell his specialist or any doctors about the mental issues he is going through as he believes it s real. I really need some help as I don t know what to do. He tells me what his thinking but won t tell any sort of doctors as he is scared that they might think he is crazy and admit him in a mental facility. Yesterday he said if things don t get better in a few months he won t be able to go back to work the way he is now. I think sometimes he listens to me in saying that this is all caused by his disease and if he keeps taking his medication everything will get better but other times he thinks what he thinks is really reality. I just need some help and advise on this issue. I have read quite a few articles on the internet about graves disease and paranoide schizophrenia and usually after 2 weeks of the patient on neomercazole these thoughts start to disappear and they think like they used to. Do you think if my partner keeps taking PTU this will also be the case? Is there any difference because was partner is taking PTU instead of neomercazole and would it take longer for PTU to reduce these thoughts? Since the specialist is saying his thyroid levels are normal and balanced is it really paranoide schizophrenia from graves disease or could it be some other sort of mental illness? Schizophrenia runs in his family history but he is currently 28 and never had any mental issues until now. I have assumed it s all related to this disease since it all happened while he wasn t taking his medication or seeing the doctor. Should I go talk to a doctor or even his specialist about these issues by myself since he won t admit it to them? Anything you could advise me on about all of this would be so helpfull as I feel like his life and mental state is in my hands and I just want him to get better and think as he used to. Thank you so much for any advise.

in my opinion the thyroid should beunder control and the proportion of medicines should be increased ordecreased according to level of tsh which should be done after 3-6 months
there cn be many complications in graves disease if not controlled as rashes and the mental status described by you and rashes
i think you get your specialist consultation and he may be able to suggest you the number of tab according to the tsh values
and when the thyroids and other harmones come to nornal you may get rid of complications but you need continuous treatment
