Diagnosed With COPD. Had Pulmonary TB As A Youngster, Taken Methotrexate A Decade Ago, Stopped Soaking Long Back. Cause?
Hi I had Pulmonary TB when I was 27yrs old, I had to use methotrexate for 13yrs ( psoriasis & psoriatic arthropathy ) & 20yrs ago I stopped smoking after having smoked for 25yrs. I have been diagnosed with COPD my Dr said this was only to be expected. Why, the TB was cured, I no longer take methatrexate how can these two things still have an effect on my lungs?
Hello,
COPD is a complex disease and reflects airways inflammation not reversed by inhaled corticosteroids and the common cause is smoking.
I take it you were still smoking when the TB was diagnosed and when you were on MTX which (if that was the case) was a bad combination.
MTX also has lung side effects and classed into MTX-pneumonitis where the typical presenting complaints include fever, shortness of breath (acute) but also long term non-reversible complications of bronchiolitis or restrictive lung disease that may appear like COPD. So please ensure you have seen a Pulmonologist with experience in MTX-lung disease.

Psoriasis is genetic predisposition...,
It attacks skin, joints, and nails ..,
Where as TB attacks lungs, blood, spine and brain..,
