Diagnosed For Hepatitis Viruses But Came Out Normal. Would That Prevent Me From Being Able To Give Blood?

Hello, I recently tried to give for the second time and I was declined. I meet all of the usual criteria. However, after being turned down I called the company and they told me I had antibodies for one of the Hepatitis viruses. So I went and had tests done and everything came back normal. Why would that prevent me from being able to give blood?

Hi,

The main viral investigation to detect Hepatitis B is HBsAg (surface antigen), which is searched for routinely. If detected, a full viral profile is then formed.
HBsAg may disappear or persist. Its presence indicates a current or chronic infection as well as a carrier state.

Other serological markers for Hepatitis B can be interpreted as follows:

HBsAg (HB surface antigen) - persistent infection
anti-HBs (Antibody to HB surface antigen) - past infection and immunity
HBeAg (HB e antigen) - highly infectious
Antibody to HB e(also called HBV DNA) - indicates circulating virus
anti-HBc IgM - recent infection
anti-HBc IgG - past infection

Hope this helps,

Take Care!
