Diabetic taking lovastatin. Low good cholesterol value. On low carbohydrate diet. Can you give a diet option?

Hi. Thanks. I am diabetic and on a low carb diet. My condition is controlled by mess, diet, and exercise. I received blood results today and my hdl is normal and my good cholesterol is low. I am on lovastatin . Why would my doctor not only have me on a low carb diet but also a low fat dire? I am perplexed. That doesn t leave me too many eating! Forget it I thought this was free.

Type 2 diabetics patients have two to four fold higher chances of developing coronary artery disease and cerebrovasular disease as compared to non diabetics. The higher prevalence is seen even in those patients who achieve persistent tight blood sugar control.
It is believed that co existing dyslipidemia significantly contributes to higher prevalence of macro vascular disease and thus needs to be aggressively managed along with hyperglycaemia and hypertension,if present.
This is the reason your doctor has put you on a statin like LVASTATIN and asking you to take low fat diet.
As far as dieting options are concerned, you may take the help of a dietician who can help you in your diet plan.
